Uganda Dowry Fund

In many cultures, a wedding dowry is very common. Consisting of cows, goats, clothing, and other items, an Ugandan dowry is a thank you gift from the groom to the bride's family. In this way, the groom shows appreciation to them for raising her. However, the dowry price can be quite hefty for a young man who may not have the means to raise money for this gift. It is even harder when you live in one of the poorest countries in the world like Uganda.

Our teams have met many young Ugandan pastors each desiring to marry a godly woman who can be a help-meet to him in the ministry. Struggling to get the cash for a dowry can take anywhere from 2 to 3 years before the money is available to get married. This can create many problems in the relationship. It can also bring unwelcome temptation. Some of the pastors no longer have a position in a church because of giving into this temptation. Although many friends come alongside them to help, it still is a daunting task to complete.

Because of these difficulties, the dowry fund was established. It will assist these young men to achieve God's desire for a man and a woman much sooner. As these pastors work at ministry in Uganda through translating for Western missionaries at church plants, or through serving in other ways, they will be saying “thank you” for the gift.
